When you create tasks and task schedules for your controls in KCM GRC, you can assign one or more approving managers to the task. After the User Assigned marks the task as complete, the approving managers will need to review the task and mark it as approved or insufficient. If a group is assigned to the control that the task or task schedule was created for, the Group Lead will also need to review the task.
To learn about the approval workflow for tasks that approving managers and user groups are assigned to, see the sections below.

Workflow for Tasks with Approving Managers
When you create a task, you can assign an Approving Manager and a Second-level Approving Manager to the task. If you assign the two approving managers to a task, the task will be closed after they have both approved it.
For more information about this workflow, see the chart and list below:
- The User Assigned submits evidence for the task.
- The User Assigned marks the task as complete.
- If an Approving Manager is assigned to the task, the Approving Manager will receive an email notification to approve the task. If an Approving Manager is not assigned to the task, the task will close automatically.
- If a Second-level Approving Manager is assigned to the task, the Second-level Approving Manager will receive an email notification to approve the task after the Approving Manager approves the task. If a Second-level Approving Manager is not assigned to the task, the task will close automatically.
Workflow for Tasks with User Groups
If a user group is assigned to the control that the task was created for, you can assign any members of the group to the task, including the Group Lead. If you do not assign the Group Lead to the task, the Group Lead will be responsible for approving the task. If you would like, you can also assign an Approving Manager and Second-level Approving Manager to approve the task. For more information about assigning user groups to controls, see our Working with User Groups article.
