This article discusses the common errors that may occur in the Defend deployment center, why they occur, and how to resolve them. The errors fall into two main categories:
- Connector errors
- Transport rule errors
Connector Errors
The table below contains a common connector error and how to resolve it.
| Error | Severity | Reason | Resolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| DefendInstalled | Critical | This error indicates that Defend is already installed in your email environment. | Determine if Defend is already installed. We suggest continuing with the existing deployment. |
| HybridWizard | Warning | This error indicates that your environment may have Microsoft Exchange on-premises and may be unsupported. | Contact your Customer Service Manager to ensure you have a supported platform. |
Transport Rule Errors
The table below contains the common transport rule errors and how to resolve them.
| Error | Severity | Reason | Resolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| DefendRuleAlreadyExists | Critical | This error indicates that a Defend transport rule already exists in your email environment, which could interfere with the new deployment. | Determine if Defend is already installed. We suggest continuing with the existing deployment. |
| SetSCL | Warning | This error indicates that an existing rule sets the spam confidence level (SCL), which means that the SCL value received by Defend may not be accurate. | Identify and turn off any rules that override the Microsoft SCL. |
| TooManyIPs | Warning | This error indicates that the advanced delivery policy could not be configured because too many IP addresses are listed. | Reduce the number of IP addresses in the advanced delivery policy or consolidate existing policies. |
| Advanced Delivery Policies | Warning | This error indicates an issue setting up advanced delivery policies required for phishing simulation tests. | Troubleshoot and resolve issues preventing the setup of advanced delivery policies:
|
| StopRuleProcessing | Warning | This error occurs when an email that matches this transport rule is not routed via Defend. | After re-evaluating the transport rule, you may want to remove the “Stop processing more rules” flag or move it after Defend in the mail flow rule order. |
| DeleteMessage | Warning | This error occurs when an email that matches this transport rule is deleted. | After re-evaluating the rule, you may want to remove the Deleted flag. |
| ApplyOEM | Warning | This error indicates the customer has applied Microsoft Office 365 Message Encryption (OME). Defend is unable to read encrypted messages, which will prevent Defend from scanning them. | Ensure emails are decrypted before and encrypted after an email is sent to Defend. |
| RouteMessageOutboundConnector | Warning | This error could interfere with Defend’s processing flow if pre-existing external connectors are routing emails elsewhere. | Ensure that this connector and other external connectors do not conflict. |
| ApplyRightProtectionTemplate | Warning | This error indicates that email encryption has been applied. Defend is unable to read encrypted messages, which will prevent Defend from scanning them. | Ensure emails are decrypted before and encrypted after an email is sent to Defend. |
| ApplyClassification | Warning | This error indicates that Defend has not been able to apply classifications to the email. | Contact the KnowBe4 support team for help. |
