Understanding Template Difficulty Ratings
Each template within our System Templates is assigned a difficulty rating. This rating is based on the content of the email and how difficult it will be for your users to detect that the email is a simulated phishing email.
After your users have taken an introductory security awareness training course, begin sending phishing tests using the templates with one or two-star difficulty ratings. These templates will help your users detect the red flags of social engineering and prepare them for the templates with four and five-star difficulty ratings.

How Can I Use Templates Based on Difficulty Ratings?
When setting up your phishing campaign, you can limit the campaign to only include templates with specific difficulty ratings. Before doing so, we recommend that you choose multiple template categories to increase the variety of templates that you are phishing your users with.

How Do You Rate Your Templates?
Our templates are rated on a basic scale of one to five stars. The following factors are considered when determining a template's difficulty rating: Grammar, spelling, punctuation, use of logos, overall design, and the use of targeted user information (user-specific or account-specific placeholders).
See the following descriptions for examples of the template difficulty ratings:
- 1-2 Stars: An email with this rating may have a lot of spelling or punctuation errors.
- 3 Stars: An email with this rating may include a logo from an organization it is trying to spoof, but also misspell the spoofed organization's email address. Additionally, the template wouldn't include targeted user information.
- 4-5 Stars: Emails with this rating are designed to appear more authentic, with very few red flags for the user to spot. They may utilize targeted user information. For example, the email may spoof your own domain and appear to be a well-crafted internal message from your HR or IT team.
You can also rate any templates that you design yourself, using the Difficulty Rating drop-down within our WYSIWYG editor.
