We have all been there, we hire someone who isn't what they claim to be or do what they said they can do during the interview. And they always seem to think it is IT's fault when something isn't working out.
I will give you a couple examples (this has actually happened in my company). You hire someone who put on their resume they are proficient in Microsoft Office. After a short time of them being here the boss wants to know why stuff isn't getting done. They talk to the new employee, the new employee says they never got the email and they mention they never get any emails. So of course it is IT's fault, always is right lol, the boss chews you out and you have to fix it. We however know better and when talking to the employee to see what is going on, turns out they never open Outlook, ever at all. So we open Outlook and low and behold all these emails come through like magic. Case closed.
We hire another employee who took time off when their kids were born and just decided to be a stay at home parent (which is great by the way if you can do that). However supposedly they have never ever touched a PC, at all. The only "computer" they touched was an ancient Mac bac in the day to run QuickBooks. So when we hired them, they never had a clue on computer basics, like what is a web browser, what is a PDF, how to even turn on the darn thing (this seriously did happen), etc... Heck I have employees who claim they never knew they had a company email address.
I will save you all the horror stories and I am sure many of you can relate, maybe one day I will write a book after doing IT for 20 some years, I have quite a bit of stories lol.
Anyways it got me thinking, what if there was something in KnowBe4, where you could email a potential new hire a link, where they can login and take something like a quiz of sorts, basically an assessment of their skillset, and then you can see the results which could help you determine if we want to hire them. Because in the end when people like this get hired, is it creates more work for existing employees and these people end up getting fired or quit anyways. A tool like this could weed out the people who we don’t want and potentially create less work for everyone involved in the long run.
