Engaging Users During Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Observed every October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness and improve your organization's security culture. You can teach and encourage your users all month long by following the Weekly Planner found in our Cybersecurity Awareness Month Resource Kit.
In your KMSAT console, you’ll find four new Security Hints and Tips newsletters, two new landing pages, and four updated phishing templates. These resources relate to the topic covered in each week of the Weekly Planner. We recommend using these newsletters, landing pages, and phishing templates together for a cohesive and engaging learning experience.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month Security Hints and Tips Newsletters
For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we have updated four of our Security Hints and Tips newsletters. Each newsletter provides hints and tips about a common cybersecurity topic. Users will learn how to protect themselves and your organization against phishing for personal information, unsafe email attachments, social media phishing, and unexpected emails.
If you would like to preview these Security Hints and Tips newsletters in your KMSAT console, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Phishing > Email Templates.
- Click System Templates.
- Copy a title from the list below and search for the newsletter you would like to preview:
- KnowBe4 Security Tips - Google Yourself
- KnowBe4 Security Tips - Unsafe Email Attachments
- KnowBe4 Security Tips - Stay Safe on Social Media
- KnowBe4 Security Tips - Unexpected Emails
- Once you find the newsletter, click the eye icon next to the title to preview it.
To share these Security Hints and Tips newsletters with your users, you can create four Security Hints and Tips phishing campaigns, one for each week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. To start, navigate to the Phishing tab and click + Create Phishing Campaign. Then, select the recommended settings below and customize the campaign as needed.
- Frequency: Select One-time.

Start Time: To send one newsletter each Monday in Cybersecurity Awareness Month, use the corresponding dates listed below:
- For your week 1 campaign, select October 2, 2023.
- For your week 2 campaign, select October 9, 2023.
- For your week 3 campaign, select October 16, 2023.
- For your week 4 campaign, select October 23, 2023.
- Sending Period: Select Send all emails when the campaign starts.
- Template Categories: Select either Security Hints&Tips (Not PST) or Security Hints&Tips (Branded) (Not PST).
- From the second Template Categories drop-down menu, select the template that corresponds with that week:
- For your week 1 campaign, select KnowBe4 Security Tips - Google Yourself.
- For your week 2 campaign, select KnowBe4 Security Tips - Unsafe Email Attachments.
- For your week 3 campaign, select KnowBe4 Security Tips - Stay Safe on Social Media.
- For your week 4 campaign, select KnowBe4 Security Tips - Unexpected Emails.
- Customize the rest of the settings as you would like, then click Create Campaign.
- Repeat these steps for each of the four weeks of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month Landing Pages and Phishing Templates
For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we updated four phishing templates and created two new landing pages. Each phishing template is an example of a common cybersecurity threat, such as social engineering, malicious URLs, and QR code phishing. Each landing page teaches users how to protect themselves and your organization from these threats.
If you would like to preview the Cybersecurity Awareness Month phishing templates, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Phishing > Email Templates.
- Click System Templates.
- Copy a title from the list below to search for the phishing template you would like to preview:
- UPS: We attempted to deliver your item (QR Code)
- Scheduled Maintenance (Link) (Spoofs Domain) (PDF Attachment) (Fake Attachment)
- LinkedIn: Hoyt Waller sent you a message on LinkedIn (Link)
- Chase: Security Alert: Unusual Debit Card Activity Detected (Link)
- Once you find the phishing template, click the eye icon next to the title to preview it.
If you would like to preview Cybersecurity Awareness Month landing pages, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Phishing > Landing Pages.
- Click System Landing Pages.
- Copy a title from the list below to search for the landing page you would like to preview:
- Browser Language Detecting: How to avoid the Cyber Monsters
- Browser Language Detecting: That was scary!
- Once you find the landing page, click the eye icon next to the title to preview it.
These phishing templates and landing pages are designed to be used together in four Phishing Security Tests (PSTs), one for each week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. To create these PSTs, start by navigating to the Phishing tab and clicking + Create Phishing Campaign. Then, select the recommended settings below and customize the campaign as needed.
- Frequency: Select One-time.

Start Time: To send one PST each Wednesday in Cybersecurity Awareness Month, use the corresponding dates listed below:
- For your week 1 campaign, select October 2, 2023.
- For your week 2 campaign, select October 9, 2023.
- For your week 3 campaign, select October 16, 2023.
- For your week 4 campaign, select October 23, 2023.
- Sending Period: Set your campaign to send emails over 3 business days.

Template Categories: These settings depend on the week and template you select. For more information about the settings for each week, see below:
- Week 1:
- Template Categories: Select QR Code.
- Template: Select UPS: We attempted to deliver your item (QR Code).
- Week 2:
- Template Categories: Select IT.
- Template: Select Scheduled Maintenance (Link) (Spoofs Domain) (PDF Attachment) (Fake Attachment).
- Week 3:
- Template Categories: Select Social Networking.
- Template: Select LinkedIn: Hoyt Waller sent you a message on LinkedIn (Link).
- Week 4:
- Template Categories: Select Banking and Finance.
- Template: Select Chase: Security Alert: Unusual Debit Card Activity Detected (Link).
Note: If your organization has opted in to our Phishing Templates (Beta) advanced features, select Cybersecurity Awareness Month from the Template Topics drop-down menu. From the Template Selection drop-down menu, select Specific Template (Choose one template). Then, select the weekly template listed above from the Specific Template drop-down menu.
- Week 1:

Landing Page: From the drop-down menu, select the landing page you would like to use:
- Option 1: Select Browser Language Detecting: How to avoid the Cyber Monsters.
- Option 2: Select Browser Language Detecting: That was scary!.
- Customize the rest of the settings as you would like, then click Create Campaign.
- Repeat these steps for each of the four weeks of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
