Scam of the Week
The Scam of the Week is a weekly newsletter written by KnowBe4. The newsletter summarizes a recent real-world scam and provides tips on how to stay safe from similar scams. You have two options for sending the newsletter to your users. You can use our User Messaging feature to create a recurring message, or you can create a phishing campaign from the Phishing tab.

Set Up a Scam of the Week Message
Users will be able to view the Scam of the Week on the Messages tab of the Learner Experience (LX). You can send these messages weekly or biweekly and you have the option to send a copy of the message to each user via email. For general information about messages, see our User Messaging Guide.
To create a Scam of the Week message, follow the steps below:
- From your KnowBe4 console, navigate to Users >Messages.
- Click the Create New Message button at the top-right corner of the page.
- Select Scam of the Week from the drop-down menu.
- On the New Scam of the Week Message page, customize your settings. For more information about each setting, see the screenshot and list below:
- Frequency: Choose how often Scam of the Week messages should be sent. You can select either Weekly or Biweekly.
- Send to: To send the Scam of the Week to your entire organization, select All Users. To only send the Scam of the Week to part of your organization, select Specific Groups and choose one or more groups from the drop-down menu.
- Make this a branded message: Select this check box to include your organization’s logo, name, and domain in the Scam of the Week message. This option is only available if you have a company logo URL configured in your account settings. - Also send this message as an email: Select this check box to send a copy of the Scam of the Week message to each user via email. This message will still be listed on the Messages tab of the LX.
Note: Emails sent using the User Messaging feature are not tracked and will not be included in any message-related data. - Review your selections, then click Create Message.
Note: To send the Scam of the Week newsletter, we recommend you use our User Messaging feature rather than creating a phishing campaign. Email filters and anti-phishing software are less likely to block User Messaging emails.
Set Up a Scam of the Week Phishing Campaign
Scam of the Week newsletters that are sent using a phishing campaign can only be delivered via email and will not appear in the LX. For general information about phishing campaigns, see our Creating and Managing Phishing Campaigns article.
Follow the steps below to set up a Scam of the Week phishing campaign:
- From your KnowBe4 console, navigate to the Phishing tab.
- Click the Create Phishing Campaign button at the top-right corner of the page.
- User the recommended settings listed below to fill out the fields on the New Phishing Campaign page:
- Send to: To send the Scam of the Week to your entire organization, select All Users. To only send the Scam of the Week to specific users, select Specific Groups and choose one or more groups from the drop-down menu.
- Frequency: Select Weekly.
- Start Time: Typically the Scam of the Week is published on Monday or Tuesday each week, so we recommend that you start your campaign on a Wednesday.
- Sending Period: Select Send all emails when the campaign starts. This setting will ensure that all selected users receive the Scam of the Week at the same time.
- Template Categories: From the first drop-down menu, select Scam of the Week (Not PST). Alternatively, if you would like to include your company logo at the top of the newsletter, select Scam of the Week (Branded) (Not PST). Then, from the second drop-down menu, select Random. - Hide from Reports: Select this check box to hide the Scam of the Week campaign from your phishing reports. This setting helps ensure that your phishing reports only include data from phishing security tests. - Click Create Campaign.
